IN DE KIJKER  Nieuwe uitdagingen aangaan door oude barrières te doorbreken 2009 is het Europese jaar van de Creativiteit en Innovatie, dat bewustzijn wil creëren rond het belang van creativiteit en innovatie voor persoonlijke, sociale en economische ontwikkeling. Europese onderzoeksinstellingen legden een gezamenlijke verklaring  af rond dit onderwerp op de laatste IBBT iMinds conferentie, met de bedoeling een positieve input te leveren voor het debat over de nieuwe Europese ICT innovatiestrategie. Lees meer >> ITS World Congress: ITS Belgium en IBBT slaan opnieuw de handen in elkaar ITS Belgium en IBBT verenigen opnieuw hun kennis en deskundigheid in de ITS industrie om de groeiende mobiliteitsuitdagingen in Vlaanderen en daarbuiten aan te gaan. Samen willen we innovatieve ICT knowhow ontwikkelen en exploiteren voor bedrijven in de ITS industrie en voor de Vlaamse overheid. Dit partnership maakt een kruisbestuiving tussen de onderzoeksgemeenschap en de industrie mogelijk. Op het ITS World Congress  (21-25 september, Stockholm) delen we een stand waar gezamenlijke projecten worden voorgesteld. IBBT award uitgereikt aan de beste student paper op ICDSC2009 De derde editie van de IEEE/ACM International Conference on Distributed Smart Cameras (ICDSC2009) ging door in Como, Italië, van 30 augustus tot 2 september 2009. De conferentie bood inzichten in het potentieel en de uitdagingen van gedistribueerde camera netwerken en presenteerde design methodologieën die door leidende onderzoeksgroepen in dit domein worden toegepast. De IBBT award werd uitgereikt aan de beste student paper:  "Multi-Camera Tracking on a Graph Using Markov Chain Monte Carlo", door Honggab Kim, Justin Romberg en Wayne Wolf van Georgia Institute of Technology. In the picture New call for iStep and iBoot camp This spring, IBBT will launch another series iStep training sessions and a second iBoot camp, in cooperation with Vlerick Leuven-Gent Management School. With the multiple day iStep training at Master level we want to give the necessary support to the development and implementation of certain research results, with a lot of emphasis on the specific nature of the ICT sector.  Participants can learn how to link technology with the market and how technological projects can be developed up to the point where they can actually be put into market. The IBBT iBoot camp answers to the need to compose a good team before taking a spin-off idea to a venture capitalist. A boot camp is aimed specifically at potential starters with an innovative business idea who are appealing to entrepreneurial skills which are specific and therefore require specific knowledge of the researchers. Prof. Piet Demeester (IBBT-IBCN-UGent) becomes IEEE Fellow Effective 1 January 2009, professor Piet Demeester (IBBT - INTEC - UGent) became an IEEE Fellow, with the accompanying citation "for contributions to optical communication networks and technologies". The IEEE Fellow is one of the most prestigious honors of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. ), and is bestowed upon a very limited number of Senior Members who have made outstanding contributions to the electrical and information technologies and sciences for the benefit of humanity and the profession. The number of IEEE Fellows elevated in a year is no more than one-tenth of one percent of the total IEEE voting membership. In 2008 302 new Fellows were elevated. First ICON call a success The deadline for submission of project ideas within the framework of the First IBBT call for ICON projects was successfully closed on December 23rd 2008. The submitted ideas will now be further developed into project proposals by the partners involved, based on the project documents and manual which are now online.
