Bednet & its digital school celebrate 5th birthday

Geschreven door admin op Tuesday 03 March 2009

Bednet, the project that supports the learning process of long term sick children by linking them in a virtual way to their own classroom, exists 5 years. In this period Bednet has guided some 100 children. Yearly there are about 2000 children between the age of 6 and 18 that are recovering from an operation, a disease or an accident for longer than a month, which keeps them away from school.

They don't only miss a lot of classes, the lack social contact and have the risk to grow lonely.

Long term sick children between the age of 6 and 18 can take their school courses via the internet as if they were really present in the classroom. A Bednet set consists of 2 laptops (one for the child and one for the teacher), 2 webcams, 2 printer-scanner devices and a camera pointed at the black board of the classroom. With these tools the child can follow his or her classes and even ask questions. In the past 5 years Bednet assisted some 100 children and in the future it would each schoolyear like to help 500 children.

Bednet results from the IBBT ASCIT long term sick children project. More info about this project can be found here
