Webinos

Webinos

The web runtime extensions, along with complementary infrastructure components that Webinos will generate, must ensure the safe and consistent manner in which  web applications and services can be used and shared in a wide range of equipment such as mobile phones, PCs, home media devices and equipment built into cars.

Webinos promotes the vision “one service for each device” and aims to run all web applications consistently over a wide range of devices.

That is why the main focus needs to be placed on the description, security and use of functionalities of each device.

Principles

Webinos has laid out some principles. For example, a shared set of APIs is being used to allow the easy transmission of applications from one type of device to another.

Webinos works with one virtual mechanism that unites all equipment a user may possess. By working with a virtual device, it becomes easier to respond to changes such as new equipment or a new context.

Innovation

Webinos will make sure that the sector can more easily migrate to web-based services. At the moment many companies are developing offerings that use and integrate Internet. Webinos aims to be a catalyst to ensure collaboration between all parties and to prevent fragmentation.

By choosing a robust open source platform Webinos can eliminate economic barriers, develop a data-privacy policy and do away with technological limitations.

Partners

Webinos is driven by a strong consortium involving mobile phone manufacturers, telecom operators, the automobile industry and major research centers.
