Healthcare is typically a very data intensive domain. Hospitals, general practitioners, pharmacists and other healthcare providers have a strong need to share vast amounts of patient information. Next generation clinical applications, enabling
collaboration and backed by decision support systems, also require innovative solutions for sharing medical data. In this context the Share4Health project studies a patient centric but community enabled healthcare IT platform.
The research results will be implemented and integrated to obtain a proof-of-concept of a next-generation healthcare platform for collaboration between general practitioners, pharmacists and hospitals.
This means that:
- Supported applications will range from (relatively) simple clinical data sharing to collaborative applications,
- Decision support applications explores the knowledge that is available in a community (wisdom of the crowds"),
- Obviously, such a next generation platform should support sophisticated authorization and privacy compliant access to patient data and services; this access control solution must be compliant with patient consent requirements.
