RUBENS

RUBENS

‘Triple-Play’ networks, on the other hand, offer a high guarantee but are very expensive and have limited reach.

RUBENS’ goal is to delineate and evaluate a new broadband infrastructure.

This new infrastructure needs to offer a personalized ‘Quality-of-Experience’, which has to be flexible and scalable to accommodate a wide variety of applications, delivery models and equipment.

RUBENS needs to offer a solution to operators for the increasing consumption of personalized content and the higher demands related to the bandwidth of Triple-play, for example the transition to HDTV; and all at a reasonable cost.

Desired side-effects

By rethinking a new infrastructure, many other aspects can be considered; for example a better integration of Quality-of-Service mechanisms, protocols for content delivery and technologies for video streaming.

RUBENS will examine techniques that dynamically optimize user experience through an optimal cooperation between the network and its applications.

The RUBENS infrastructure will be specified in a manner that combines the adaptability of the content delivery with an increased flexibility in the network. In this way RUBENS will enable innovations in the field of architecture and network protocols.
