QoCON

Quality of service in Cognitive Networks

The QoCON project is part of the 4A long-term vision on wireless communication, meaning a continuous connectivity. The major challenge in the A4 vision is the lack of spectral bandwidth, resulting in not guaranteeing the Quality of Service (QoS).

QoCON aims to tackle the overload of the wireless spectrum and the interference signals by introducing spectrum sensing ‒ the most elementary function of cognitive radios, and cognitive networks.

This solution entails:

  1. Monitoring the wireless environment and ‘understanding’ it.
  2. Identification of existing and potential control operations such as power control, and selection of channels or wireless technologies.
  3. Decision mechanisms to select which control operations to perform and when, in order to achieve optimal overall performance (policies).

Cognitive radios & networking

QoCON aims to provide a solution to the lack of spectral bandwidth and the attendant challenge to guarantee adequate Quality of Service (QoS) in wireless data networks. The solution entails the development of cognitive radio and cognitive networks with this quality guarantee.

QoCON aims to this for the following user applications:

  1. Wireless professional conference systems
  2. Wireless IP surveillance cameras or network security cameras with open protocols
  3. Digital collaboration in meeting rooms
