Project summary
With the academic knowledge and the industrial companies present in Flanders, and more particularly the members of the consortium proposing this project, we are convinced that Flanders can play a significant role in this new emerging field at a global level. In order to make the difference, the project combines a close interdisciplinary collaboration on all technical areas of the end-to-end solution, with a balanced focus on mid and long term innovations and creation of in-depth research assets.
We aim for a real-time demonstration of the video selection, the display and the symbolic overview features. In addition we aim to develop a feasible mock-up of future real-time immersive virtual meeting scenarios in order to simulate the user experience with this future technology. The simulation will be semi-interactive and not real-time but will aim at demonstrating a high degree of photorealism.
In the long term, we are convinced that this project will have a significant impact on society and the environment. We expect that the tele-presence system will provide some first steps towards more flexibility for employees to work from every possible physical location with a comparable (or event better) user experience compared to physically being together. Meeting this goal will significantly reduce local and global professional travelling with positive impact on the environment.
