EPIC

EPIC

The European Platform for Smart Cities

EPIC is a consortium uniting leading Living Labs, researchers and technology partners with local governments and innovative SME’s, in order to work together for a pan-European platform for innovative user driven public servicing.

The EPIC platform meets the request of Living Labs (living labs), researchers and innovative companies in order to test their findings on industrial and costs effective scale and link to innovations from all over Europe in a flexible way.

It also meets the need of European citizens for quick and personalised public services through the web.

How?

1. Living Labs that are part of EPIC will use the test platform to involve citizens and SME’s in developing and testing  iPhone-type applications, which may not be free after a certain amount of time.

2. The involved partner cities commit themselves to integrating existing and new web based applications in the platform, allowing other interested cities to make use of them as well.

3. Research centres and consultants involved in the project will collect their findings in a roadmap in order to work out several business models.

The EPIC platform

  • A Test and Development Cloud, where new applications will be developed.
  • A Semantic and Linguistic Layer, which should allow the use by various language groups.
  • Future Internet Middleware, which should allow the use of future internet technologies.
  • An EPIC Smart Cities Service Catalogue, providing information on the applications.
  • A City Portal, giving users access to the applications.
  • Applications for spatial planning, waste disposal, and housing.
