DREAMaaS

Data and Resource-oriented Workload Management in a SaaS Context

DREAMaaS enables SaaS providers to utilize multiple cloud computing environments in a seamless way at the infrastructure level. Its approach is to develop an architecture that governs the runtime behavior of a SaaS offering. The systems application architecture supports static and dynamic allocation of software component instances between multiple cloud environments and take into account domain-specific knowledge.

The resulting artifact of DREAMaaS is, essentially, a middleware that enables ’SaaS-oriented‘ software companies to choose the operating modus that best suits their needs. The architecture automatically adapts this operating modus based on domain-specific knowledge, monitoring information of running software and infrastructure components and pricing information from public cloud offerings.

The architecture will leverage on existing work but provides added value in the following areas:
Explicit support for domain-specific knowledge and more general knowledge that influences the operating mode of the SaaS offering.
The design and implementation of the scheduling and rescheduling algorithms that operate within the bounds set by the domain-specific and general knowledge and monitoring information.
