CROSLOCIS

Today the large scale market entry of such smart services is prevented by a number of technological and business inhibitors:

  • Heterogeneous service environments, ranging from the pure IT environment – with XML Web Services and Wireless LAN as key elements – up to sophisticated mobile or fixedmobile- converged telecom environments – IMS or Tispan architectures – consist of essentially different enabling services concepts, with varying service platform and device constraints and varying security assumptions and means.
  • Too environment-specific enabling services miss common models and procedures for collecting, storing and exchanging identity, location, presence and profile data in a secure and application-independent way.
  • Unclear business and value chain roles prevent from composing a more complete service experience involving multiple service providers, posing issues like subscriber “ownership” and federated administration.
  • Service management and administration is lacking, e.g. for managing service-user relationships, service inventories, resource availability and charging policies.
  • Service authoring tools are lacking for allowing 3rd party service creators to easily build services from powerful, reusable service environment foundations.
  • Regulatory frameworks are heterogeneous regarding access to networks and/or services, hence current legal provisions do not suffice for the roles stakeholders take with these new forms of services and service creation.

The project delivers research results in each of the following areas, as needed to establish the
main concepts for a service creation framework for smart local city services:

  • business models and scenarios for smart local city services
  • an enhanced service and network architectural basis
  • enabling services that populate the service framework with smart, value-adding functionality that can be leveraged by the actual end-user services
  • an approach to service creation by the various types of framework users
  • advanced multi-device user interface support for the services creatable towards end-users
