Answering your research needs

What type of research can IBBT help you with?

IBBT supports multidisciplinary research for innovative ICT services and applications within five research domains: eHealth, New Media, Mobility, Enabling technologies, and eGovernment. In recent years, IBBT has been involved in projects concerning online home care, mobile television, wireless support systems for emergency services, among others.

How will we work together?

Depending on your particular objectives, IBBT determines the optimal way of working together for each project. IBBT also selects the people that need to be involved in the research.

Cluster of complementary companies and organizations

For this type of research, IBBT brings together complementary companies and organizations.  Moreover, IBBT finances up to 50% of all research costs.

The application and evaluation processes for interdisciplinary cooperation projects with IBBT companies, formerly known as GBO projects, have been reviewed and will henceforth be replaced by projects for Interdisciplinary Collaborative Research (ICON projects).

There is substantially no difference between these ICON projects and the GBO goals but the liaison with the IWT is being reinforced.  By means of one single application procedure with the IBBT, all companies complying with the IWT conditions will be able to apply directly for IWT support for the ICON project.  Don't hesitate to ontact the program managers (Birgit Morlion, Nico Verplancke or André De Vleeschouwer) or e-mail to projectbeheer@ibbt.be if you have ideas  for new projects.

Research assignments for a single company or organization

IBBT also carries out Contract Research. One or more IBBT competencies are deployed to carry out a specific research assignment for individual companies or organizations. The research is financed by the company in question, who also has exclusive ownership of the research results.

Long-term explorative research

Some research themes may not yet have a clearly defined market application. Because of their speculative nature, they hold certain risks for all parties involved and transcend the scope of typical research projects. For this type of research, IBBT sets up an Interdisciplinary Strategic Basic Research (ISBO) project.

European research projects

IBBT and its research groups are actively involved in numerous European research projects. The research groups have a long tradition of international commitment and participate in numerous technology forums and platforms.

Art&D: cooperation between art and research

In the conviction that the development of a real and durable competitive advantage lies in the integration of research, organization and creativity, IBBT has set up the Art&D-program. Within the Art&D-program of 2008 four projects are supported which are refreshing, have an artistical potential and which encourage an explicit interaction between artists and researchers.

IM Pact: joint research program of IBBT and ICTRegie

The International Media Pact (IM-Pact) is a joint research program of IBBT and ICTRegie in the field of digital media. This program is financially made possible by IBBT, ICTRegie, the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs. Dutch and Flemish universities were asked to develop proposals for a joint four-year research project of a Dutch research trainee and a Flemish PhD.
