iBoot Camp
iBoot: gives wings to your business idea
When a spin-off is looking for investors (venture capitalists), it appears that the composition of the team is often an important breaking point. In order to address this problem from the start – even long before capital is sought for – IBBT introduced the formula of the iBoot camp.
This iBoot Camp is divided into a number of multi-day sessions that can be attended by several teams. During iBoot camp specialized workshops pay a specific focus on training, coaching and team work.
The aim is that teams examine their project from a number of different angles - technology, marketing, finance, etc. - and that they investigate in detail potential opportunities and risks with the help of a number of professional coaches.
At the end of the iBoot camp, the various teams have to present their project proposals to a panel of experts, including venture capitalists, who provide them with feedback and advice.

Achievements previous iBoot camps
iBoot camp 2008
Between January and June 2008 5 business projects were immersed in the first IBBT iBoot camp: SANTE, VPAN, Virtual Classroom, Tagger.fm, and Kievief. All 5 teams appeared for the Grand Jury on June 27th, 2008. The Grand Jury was composed of experts from within the IBBT community and a number of venture capitalists (VINNOF, GIMV, IMEC, Big Bang). Tagger.fm clearly drew the most attention. Also Santé and Kievief (spin-in of Televic) received positive feedback from the Grand Jury. The teams VPAN and Virtual Classroom couldn’t sufficiently convince the Grand Jury, which gave them the important feedback that there was still much work to do for these teams.
In short: a clear success, 3 out of 5 projects received a clear 'go' of the Grand Jury. Tagger.fm was subsequently initiated within iVenture NV, the pre-seed fund of IBBT, and obtained at the end of August 2008, a convertible loan of 300,000 euro to transform their business plan into reality. SANTE got futher guidance from within the IBBT incubation program (now iProof) and Kievief was further spun out within Televic, a business partner in many IBBT research projects. Other business partners from within the IBBT community saw sufficient potential for the VPAN-technology. This created the possibility to further valorize this valuable technology. Final conclusion: the first iBoot camp was a great success, with 4 out of 5 projects leading to an entrepreneurial initiative.
iBoot camp in 2009
The next iBoot camp session took place in the spring of 2009. There were no less than 15 valuable ideas, of which 5 were admitted to the iboot camp: SinYate, PressTo, Lime Craft, L3 and AirGraffiti. 1 extra team, namely Siena@Home had the opportunity to participate in the Alcatel-Lucent boot camp, which was held at the same time as the IBBT iBoot camp. The Grand Jury, taking place late June 2009, was again pleasantly surprised by the progress most teams had made. Only L3 and AirGraffiti couldn’t convince sufficiently. This time there was no immediate case for iVenture (the IBBT pre seed fund), but at least 2 projects - LimeCraft and SinYate – are eligible for further incubation within IBBT. New application opportunities are actively explored for the technology within Siena@Home and AirGraffiti.
