As part of the IBBT-SMIT Lecture Series, on Wednesday 29 February 2012 research group Digital Arts and Cultures organizes In Transition? The role of the curator and the arts in a digital culture. Invited speakers Beryl Graham, Frank Maet and Michelle Kasprzak situate, consider and debate this topic from an academic, philosophical and curatorial perspective.

Next we welcome Jo Caudron , an entrepreneur, evangelist, strategist, media innovator, writer... ? Over the last 15 years, he was involved in a dozen of start-up companies, all in interactive media and digital innovation. He will share his passion about media and technology with you and sees changes and opportunities before the rest of the market does, and then creates business around it.

The starting point of an ICON project is an ICT-related need detected by companies, governments or organizations and is typically situated within IBBT’s five application domains: Culture & Media, Healthy Society, Green ICT, Sustainable Mobility and Social & Secure ICT. In cooperation with the university research departments IBBT helps you to deal with this question and to find the right partners. The research partners can be of all kind. SME’s, large companies, local branches of multinationals as well as governments and social profit organizations can participate. 

The info session is meant to support these partners with the preparations of their proposal. All procedures as well as the goals of ICON-projects will be covered in depth. Since the procedure has recently changed, the session might also be interesting for those who are already familiar with ICON projects.

• Specific topics important when starting up a company.
• Special attention for applications within the ICT environment.

International experts will guide you through the process of how to get started with the business if you have an idea.

During this several-day training program at Masters level specific topics are studied which are of importance when starting up a company: choosing a business model, creating a business plan, explaining IPR, team building, defining a marketing strategy, drawing up a financial plan etc.

Special attention is also paid to specific aspects of the ICT sector. Among other things, participants learn how to create the link between technology and the market and how technological projects can be developed up to the point when they really can be launched on the market.

Participation to this workshops is free for IBBT researchers, Master students and Bachelor students. External parties and PhD students (non-IBBT related) may participate at a participation fee of ? 600 for the full program (four days) or ? 200/dag. This cost lapse for participants who already participate in other IBBT programs (iBoot, iStart, Plug & Play, Student entrepreneurship ...) or who's entering into a commitment with IBBT (cf. IBBT other programs).

IBBT offers all interested parties in her community the opportunity to follow this course for free. This training requires not only a financial commitment of IBBT but the coaches as well invest time and energy to make this a high quality training. Therefore it would be nice to those who register for the training to be present so that no seats are lost. If you're absent without good reason, we find ourselves obliged to charge a 50 Euro administrative fee for each registered module. As a formality, we ask your billing information when registering, but we obviously do not charge fees when the training, as agreed, is attended.

In the afternoon you can choose two of the 6 workshops to sharpen your skills: 

• • The Parliament
    Enter the arena and defend or counter one of the research related statements. Your debating skills will be sharpened after this session!
  • Infographic
    Lots of things to tell but little space or time to tell it in? Learn to process and visualize your data in an attractive way!
  • Brainstormtechniques
    Whether you have 5 minutes to come up with a great concept or a couple of hours to spend, there are brainstorm techniques to support you either way. Find out how to set-up a well structured brainstorm in any setting.
  • Academic writing
    Whether you’re writing a paper, a press release of a blog article, you often have to get the main message across in the first paragraph. Learn to write a to the point and attractive abstract!
  • User-centered demo’s
    However rocket-science your technology, exciting your audience, even if they have a less technical background, is not always easy to do. Learn to pimp your demo and attract maximum attention.
  • Agile development
    Swamped by TO DO lists that seem to get longer by the day? Working on lots of different projects at the same time and struggling to maintain an overview? Structure & visualize your work through Personal Kanban & innovation games.
