Evaluate the technical feasibility and performance of your ICT innovation

Developing and testing innovative ICT solutions and releasing new products in today’s complex and dynamic ICT environment is a challenging task. The diversity of hardware, software, wired and wireless networking technologies and architectures, and the multitude of existing ICT techniques and standards results in an endless amount of innovation opportunities. As a researcher or developer, surviving the innovation jungle requires technical expertise, the availability of efficient development tools and accurate measurement equipment, as well as access to reliable and often large-scale experimentation environments in which ICT solutions can be developed, optimized and tested.

What we do

The IBBT iLab.t technology centre offers the experimentation environments, the hardware, the measurement equipment and the software tools needed to develop your ICT innovations, and/or test their performance and service quality. Furthermore, the experienced iLab.t staff and collaborating IBBT researchers have the development and experimentation expertise to assist you in your search for new ICT products, applications or protocols throughout the entire development and performance evaluation cycles. If necessary, new measurement strategies, development tools or software components can be developed, even for specific ICT applications.

More specifically, the iLab.t is home to:

  • A generic experimentation facility of 100 nodes (dual processor, dual core servers) interconnected via non-blocking 1.5 Tb/s Ethernet switch, called the Virtual Wall.
  • Two generic wireless experimentation facilities of 200 and 80 nodes respectively, specifically targeting innovations involving the use, configuration or set-up of wireless networks (includes Wi-Fi, 802.15.4, Bluetooth, sensor nodes, mobile robots and a mobility emulation set-up), called the w-iLab.t.
  • A diverse range of servers and end-user equipment such as PCs, smart phones, and laptops.
  • A diverse range of additional equipment, including screens, webcams, storage servers.
  • Professional measurement equipment for characterizing and testing the performance of solutions involving wired and wireless networks, services and applications.

The iLab.t technology centre is located in Gent, Belgium, and can in many casebe operated remotely. The iLab.t  is connected to the Internet through Belnet network, with a capacity of 1Gbit/s, as such facilitating demanding interconnections with external servers or applications.

Yes, I am interested

If you are interested to use the iLab.t for your research and developments, and/or in getting support from the iLab.t team, there are different ways to get started:

  • Certain parts of the iLab.t may be used for free for non-commercial research, for example by academic institutes.
  • Collaborate with the IBBT iLab.t team in a research, development or validation project funded by an external organization. At a national/regional level funding possibilities include collaboration in a demand-driven interdisciplinary ICON projects, funding from the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO), funding by the agency for Innovation by Science and Technology (IWT). International funding possibilities are include funding channels provided by the European Commission.
  • Set-up a bilateral project between your organization and IBBT.
  • Pay for the use of (a part of) the iLab.t facility, and for our professional support and guidance.
