As it is as important as ever in the current economical climate to invest heavily in innovation and human talent, on March 23rd IBBT launched a new call for the development of innovative ICT applications with a societal impact: the INCA Award (INnovative and Creative Applications). Participantshad just one month to turn their ideas into working applications. A large number of people took on this challenge!

Over 40 applications were sent in, of which 35 met all the criteria. An overwhelming success as such! Tuesday, the winners were announced at the iMinds conference.

The first prize of 5.000 euro went to Twoddler: twittering toddlers, a project by Bart Swennen, Gert Vos and Johannes Taelman.

According to the jury Twoddler is "a good, well implemented idea, with a lot of potential. It allows people/children that are not capable of verbal communication to communicate through an inventive combination of hardware and software."

5 applications were rewarded with a silver prize (2500 euro): `ikkanhet.beŽ, `StartComputerŽ, `TableauŽ and `HupskadeeŽ. Bonze winners were `Realtime Belgian train times by voice, via any phoneŽ, `Ecoplan.beŽ, `Gameleon - The Videogame press NetworkŽ, `iVisitŽ and `TVtweetsŽ. The bronze winners went home with 1000 euro each.

A full overview of all 35 submitted applications is available through www.inca-award.be.

With INCA IBBT aims to show that the current collective, social and environmental challenges need creative and collective answers rather than top-down solutions. Times of need have proven fertile ground for radical innovation in the past after all. Today we have proven at least that a limited investment into the Flemish entrepreneurship can lead to exponential economic and societal return.
