Realisation multimedia site Waalse Krook one step closer

The Waalse Krook has to become a new multimedia site which includes the yet to be established Flemish Institute for the preservation and distribution of multimedia data, a new media center and the library of the future.

On September 30, 2009 the principle agreement was signed principle agreement signed by all the parties: the city of Ghent, the Province of East Flanders, the Flemish Government, University of Ghent and IBBT. 

A multimedia center

The multimedia center with laboratory function should be a low treshhold information place, a meeting point, a demonstration area, but also an impressive building. The new center will also provide accomodation for the yet to be established Flemish Institute for preservation and distribution of muldimedia data. 

The realization

In 2007 an open call was launched, 99 design firms responded to the call and sent in their entries. In October 2009 a first selection will take place. Early 2010 5 candidates will get the chance to work out a draft. In 2012 construction may begin and the new center will be finished in 2014.
