Our history digitized and brought to life: Archipel
Written by admin on Wednesday 10 March 2010

Books, documents, objects, photographs, images, stories and so on form the basis of our memory. Without all this, history wouldn't exist. Hence the need to constantly think about the best ways to archive all this material. In an era where computers and internet (ICT) are pervasive, the process of archiving can not be separated from digitization. The IBBT project BOM-Vlaanderen focused on the issue of preservation and distribution of multimedia data in Flanders.
In the follow-up project Archipel universities, heritage institutions, art organizations and businesses come together under the flag of IBBT to investigate future possibilities. This time the possibility of a permanent digital archive infrastructure for Flanders will be investigated.
The full press release on the start of the Archipel project can be found here. (Press release only available in Dutch).
