2009 is the European year for Creativity and Innovation, which aims to raise awareness on the importance of creativity and innovation for personal, social and economic development. European research organizations made a joint statement  on this topic at the latest IBBT iMinds conference, aiming at giving a positive input into the debate on the new European ICT innovation strategy.

ITS World Congress: ITS Belgium and IBBT join forces once more

ITS Belgium and IBBT unite knowhow and skills in the ITS industry once more to tackle the growing mobility challenge in Flanders and beyond. Together we aim to develop and exploit innovative ICT knowhow for companies in the ITS industry and for the Flemish government. This partnership enables cross-fertilization between the research community and industry. At the ITS World Congress  (21-25 September, Stockholm) we share a booth where joint projects will be presented.

IBBT award presented to best student paper at ICDSC2009

ICDSC2009The 3rd IEEE/ACM International Conference on Distributed Smart Cameras (ICDSC2009) took place in Como, Italy, from August 30 - September 2, 2009. The conference offered insight into the potentials and challenges of distributed vision networks and presented design methodologies employed by leading research groups working in these areas. The IBBT award was presented to the best student paper:  "Multi-Camera Tracking on a Graph Using Markov Chain Monte Carlo", by Honggab Kim, Justin Romberg and Wayne Wolf from Georgia Institute of Technology.

Night of the researchers - September 25th 2009

The European "night of the researchers" enables people from all over Europe to visit laboratories, and enjoy animation, games and science café´s of all kinds. The BOM Flanders project (preservation and distribution of multimedia data) will be showcased here, so go and see which forgotten treasures you can dive up out of the digitalized audiovisual archives of the VRT!

Friday Food @ IBBT: Tagger.fm - research meets entrepreneurship - October 2nd 2009

Founder Frederik De Wachter will talk about the business, research and development trajectory of Tagger.fm, an interactive website where you can tag radio songs, make your own playlist, check out clips and song texts  - from idea to startup and product (with demo). We will include IBBT´s role in this trajectory, the first results of a survey, the interaction with researchers and the challenge to close business deals. And finally, after the music demo, we want your opinion!

iStep & iBoot - entrepreneurial training

In December IBBT will launch a new series of entrepreneurial training courses.  The 3-day master workshop iStep will start in December under the guidance of the Vlerick management school, providing insights in business models, IPR, teambuilding, marketing and finance. In December IBBT will also launch the 3th call for ideas for iBoot Camp, the interactive entrepreneurial coaching program for a selection of 5 business teams.  Information sessions with more elaborate information on both courses are set up mid November!

IPR workshop: additional IPR support for entrepreneurial trainees - December 10th 2009

For the second time this year IBBT launches an IPR workshop. Although open for all, this one is especially relevant for new iBoot candidates. The program of this IPR workshop will include a first-aid IP guide for entrepreneurs (theoretical approach), followed by some practical training with exercises related to IP searches, use of public databases, etc. We will close this event with a number of recent testimonials from within the IBBT network on topics such as IPR in spin-off creation, licensing, open source software and the freedom to operate aspect.
