IBBT Brokerage event becomes iMinds - May 12,2009 @ICC Ghent

After 5 successful editions of the IBBT Brokerage Event, we are ready to launch a completely new networking event! On May 12th 2009, iMinds will offer an interactive program, alternating inspirational speeches from Samuel Widmann (Google), Amy Shuen (author of "Web 2.0: A Strategy Guide"), Alain De Taeye (TomTom), Ken Ducatel (European Commission) and several others with thematic tracks on research, incubation & entrepreneurship and ICT policy. Don´t forget to register through www.iminds.be!
And as it is as important as ever in these challenging times to invest heavily in innovation and human talent, we want to put our theories to the test: IBBT will launch a call for INnovative & Creative Applications (INCA) on March 23rd with a total prize money of 20.000 Euro for the applications that best address collective needs and challenges in Flanders. First ICON call a success: 13 new project proposals

In the first ICON call 13 new project proposals have been submitted, involving some 56 partners, 37 of which will be joining IBBT projects for the first time. The evaluation procedure for the projects starts now, and the granted projects will be announced early July 2009. The first call within the ICON procedure, which is strongly geared to IWT´s R&D-procedure, is a success as about 25 companies made use of the opportunity to apply for the R&D-support while submitting the ICON project proposal.

Tiger Project wins CELTIC Excellence Award in gold

Prof. Mario Pickavet, Dr. Didier Colle and researchers Wouter Tavernier and Koen Casier from the IBBT - IBCN - UGent research group win the golden CELTIC Excellence Award for the TIGER Project. The CELTIC TIGER Project is an IWT project which stands for `Together IP, GMPLS and Ethernet Reconsidered´. IBCN collaborated in the elaboration of the (GMPLS-controlled) Ethernet Label Switching ((G)ELS) technology, and developed an emulation platform on the Virtual Wall of iLab.t to benchmark the performance of this technology. In addition, IBCN also did an important part of the cost modeling and cost comparison work.

Recommendation systems offer a solution to this problem via user profiles with personal preferences and content suggestions based on this gathered information. Geisha Closing event - March 10, 2009 @ Het Pand, Ghent 

The possible transition from the current Standard Definition (SD) video format to High Definition as standard production format poses several new challenges concerning the media infrastructure. The IBBT research project Geisha (Grid Enabled Infrastructure for Service Oriented High Definition Media Applications) conducted research concerning the different aspects connected to the change to High Definition. We would like to invite you to the closing event of this IBBT research project highlighting the key research results through presentations and demonstrations.

Colloquium Heritage 2.0: New ways for digitale heritage - March 20, 2009 @ KVAB, Brussels

The cultural heritage sector is on the verge of fundamental changes in the field of cooperation and general operation. The network society in which we live forces the cultural heritage organizations to interact in a different way with their own operation, knowledge and public. They will have to search for new business models, and make use of new media in the process.

In light of this, the partners of the IBBT project Heritage 2.0, in association with the Koninklijke Vlaamse Academie van België voor Wetenschappen en Kunsten organize a colloquium on March 20th 2009 aimed at providing information on the national and international cases, theory and vision on digital and mobile heritage.
