MEDIA Desk completes second Crossover Lab with success

Written by IBBT on Friday 29 July 2011

End of June, MEDIA Desk organised with success a second Crossover Lab in the modern D-Hotel in Kortrijk, Belgium. This year the theme was ‘Play’ and emphasis was on gaming, interactivity and fun. During the whole event the possibilities of the internet and social media were examined.

What is a Crossover Lab?

A Crossover Lab is five-day residential workshop in which a select group of creative professionals from various disciplines are brought together. During the workshop and with the support of mentors, innovative ideas are conceived and further developed into a creative project.

On the last day, the participating teams presented their projects to a panel of experts, from whom they received feedback and sometimes the unique opportunity to launch their projects on the market.

Developed projects

During the Crossover Lab Play the following four projects were developed:

  • Another Sh*tty Game, a Facebook game which makes fun with Farmville en has evil unicorns as main characters
  • Days of Me, a Facebook application that challenges you to take a picture of yourself every day
  • Pied Piper, an application to use before, during and after a visit to the Zwin (a natural park on the border of Belgium and the Netherlands)
  • Wolf, an application where the main focus is the exchange of challenges

Further project support

During the Lab last year, it became clear that many participants would like to continue their project. Hence, we decided to introduce a non-residential Business and Development Lab in September, following the Crossover Lab. This Lab would not only further develop projects from the Crossover Lab, but also external cross-media projects, through coaching within the Crossover framework.

Final pitching day @ Games Summit

The highlight of this Lab is the Games Summit 2011 during which the presentations will be given. This is a European conference about gaming organized by MEDIA Desk on Friday September 30th in Antwerp, Belgium. Important Flemish and European game developers, policy makers, researchers and publishers will be present – both in the panel and the public.
