IBBT-SMIT, VUB to provide Sony with business models for Cognitive Radio

On 1st July, a delegation of Sony visited IBBT-SMIT-VUB for the kick-off of a research project concerning Cognitive Radio technology. As their interest goes to the business aspects of the technology, they believe IBBT's Digital Society department can play an important part in their research plans. In the research project, IBBT-SMIT will be leveraging years of experience in the field of Cognitive Radio, gained during projects such as  EU FP6 IP E2RII, EU FP7 IP E3, EU FP7 STREP CONSERN, IWT SBO ESSENCES and IBBT ISBO NGWinets.

Along these projects, valuable methodologies such as scenario identification, validation, value network construction and business modeling were developed, that will now be applied in collaboration with Sony. As IBBT-SMIT-VUB wants to be involved in all possible layers of research, ranging from fundamental to more applied research, this project is a nice addition to the running projects as it creates value for industry, based on earlier studies.

During a signing ceremony, VUB Rector Paul De Knop put his signature on the contract, which could represent the start of a long and fruitful research collaboration.
