Have you visited the Waalse Krook exhibition?

The exhibition was made up of five large tables where visitors were able to study the proposals of the five laureates in detail from original models, detailed drawings, photos and simulations of the plans. This was also presented at each table in a book as well as in a multimedia format.

Visitors were thus given the chance to gain an insight into the selected proposals and the reasons given by the judging committee.

The winners were Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects (London), Van Berkel en Bos UNStudio (Amsterdam), Toyo Ito & Associates, Architects (Tokyo), THV Mateus Beel (Ghent and Lisbon) and RCR Aranda Pigem Vilalta Arquitectes / Coussée & Goris architects (Olot (Spain) and Ghent). The last team produced the winning design, and a 3D film and interviews provide more in-depth information about their proposal.

Children were able to build their own library of the future with building blocks or create a drawing on a multi-touch table.

On 6 July people living in the neighbourhood of the Waalse Krook were given the opportunity to discover the design for the new library. More than 50 neighbours were able to listen first hand to information about the project. Alderman Lieven Decaluwé and architect Ralf Coussée provided detailed explanations.

You can find an extensive article with photos on the website of the Waalse Krook, as well as all films about the winning design and lots more.
