The 64th edition of the Accenta Jaarbeurs, with this yearŽs special guest Izmir-Turkey, is ready to go. The annual fair takes place in Flanders Expo, Ghent from 12 to 20 September 2009. This year the fair is all about communication. The AUGent booth (Association University Ghent), of which IBBT is part of, will showcases a variety of new communication technologies in full development.

When Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone in 1876, he predicted that people around the world would talk to each other via connected wires. Meanwhile, it is absolutely clear that much more than just voice can be transferred. Voice, images, text, music, data, ... all types of information can be sent over long distances. And the global communication web consists of both copper wire and fiber optics, as of wireless connections.

Evolution

The last two decades the world of communications is changing at an immense pace. The technological changes in communication are a rapid evolution, caused by the concurrence of several breakthroughs in the field of electronics (through the digitization of signals), IT (computer controlled sending and receiving of messages) and optical technologies (fiber or glass fiber as broadband transmission channels).
