Dr. M. Claire Van de Velde
As VP Tech Transfer & Valorisation, dr. M. Claire Van de Velde is responsible for setting up the research collaboration, in particular the establishment of cooperation agreements with knowledge institutions and industry, as well as identifying opportunities to commercialize IBBT research through spin-offs and the set-up of partnerships and structures leading to those partnerships.
Before joining IBBT, Claire had been Director of Scientific Policy at the University of Ghent. As such she was also involved in the valorization of research results and the establishment of spin-off companies. During 1995-2004 she was Advisor for Scientific Policy to several ministers in the Flemish Government. In 2010 Claire was Deputy Head of Cabinet for science and innovation at the Cabinet of Flemish Minister Ingrid Lieten.
In the late 80s and early 90s, she was a staff member of the Flemish Interuniversitary Board (VLIR) and the Flemish Board for Scientific Policy (VRWB). Claire started her professional career as a scientific researcher in the Department of Biology, which is part of the Faculty of Applied Sciences at the University of Ghent. She also obtained her doctorate there.
Dr. M. Claire is a member of the Management Board of various Flemish research centers. She also participates in Flemish and international networks active in research and development
