Director Research Strategy

Birgit Morlion obtained a diploma in Photonics Engineering in 1996 at the Free University of Brussels (VUB).

She started her career as a project engineer in the Laboratoire de Physique Biomédicale of the medical faculty at ULB (Université Libre de Bruxelles), the Free University of Brussels. There Birgit developed into an expert in IT for telemedicine.

She is a specialist in applications for market-ready information technologies, which are designed for the development of infrastructures for remote monitoring of lung functions. These collect information from patients with asthma, or those who have recently had a lung transplant. The data is subsequently used for analyses and scientific modelling of the lung function. With this, she realised a medical validation and quality control of an innovative e-Health application. In 2003, Birgit was granted a doctoral diploma in Biomedical Science from the ULB.

Birgit keeps in touch with the trends and revolutions in e-health, by participating as an expert in the evaluation of the European projects in health care. She is the author of a series of scientific publications. She has participated as a guest speaker in a number of different conferences.

Birgit Morlion has been the Program Manager e-Health at IBBT since December 2004. She is responsible for follow-up and support of e-health projects.
